Using INVISUS Anti-Virus V2

INVISUS Anti-Virus V2 provides you with real time and user controlled virus protection over your Windows computer environment. The main INVISUS Anti-Virus V2 scanner provides an outstanding level of protection from known Trojans and Viruses, when used to perform a full system scan of all files on your computer.

INVISUS Anti-Virus V2 is powered by world renowned Anti-Virus technologies, providing extensive coverage of Virus identities, more usually found in corporate Anti-Virus protection. It includes an on access scanner to fight against known program file based Trojans and viruses as they attempt to start.

It is important to update your dictionary definition of known Viruses (this is the file that the system uses to identify rogue files on your machine) regularly. It is recommended that this be done daily or every time you are first online, for the best protection.

  • First run

  • Following the successful installation of INVISUS Anti-Virus V2 and after restarting Windows, a prompt appears suggesting you perform an initial scan.



    To do a complete scan for viruses straight away, click Yes.

  • Main Screen



  • This screen provides a log of all the scans done, and by the use of coloured icons, gives an easy indication of the result of each scan. The buttons above the log area provide easy access to common functions.

    Scan Computer - This button launches a full scan of your computer.
    Quarantine - This button opens the Quarantine screen.
    Update - This button launches INVISUS Updater V2 which allows you to update the virus definitions.

    Log area

    The details of every scan since it was last cleared is provided. Details of the viruses found can be found by double clicking on the scan line.

    Date/Time The first column of the log area provides the time of the most recent incident. The icons indicate the result. A gray icon indicates that no virus was found within the scan, while a red icon indicates that a virus was found.
    Scan Type This indicates the type of scan that was done. Full means that it will scan every hard disk on the computer. Selection means that the user had selected individual directories and/or files. Scheduled means a automatic scheduled scan that scans for viruses.
    Status The finished status of the scan, either completed or aborted.
    Files The number of files scanned.
    Viruses The number of viruses found.
    Duration The length of time taken to do the scan.

    Virus Details



    To view the viruses found within a scan, double click on the scan line.
    Details of each virus found, the file it was found in and the what happened to the infected file is shown.

    Drop Down Menus

    File menu
    Scan Computer Perform a full scan on the computer.
    Scan Selection Perform a selective scan on the computer.
    Virus Quaratine Opens the Quarantine screen.
    Check for updates Runs INVISUS Updater V2 to look for updates to INVISUS software.
    Exit Exits INVISUS Anti-Virus V2. Answer Yes at the prompt to confirm.


    Log menu
    Save to File Saves the current log information to a ‘.log’ file.
    Clear Clears all scan attempts currently logged.


    Options Menus
    Settings Opens the Settings screen.
    Language Select the language for the AntiVirus to be shown in.


    Help menu
    User Guide Opens the user guide in a browser for reference.
    INVISUS Home Page Opens the INVISUS home page in a browser.
    INVISUS Support Page Opens the INVISUS support page in a browser.

  • Scanning files

  • Scanning for viruses can be done in 3 different ways

    Full Scan

    This scans every hard disk in the machine. To start an immediate scan of all the computer's hard drives, click Scan Computer on the File menu.

    Alternatively, you can use this button to start the full scan

    Selective Scan

    This scans the selected directories and/or files. To scan a selection of drives and/or files, including removable and network drives, click Scan Selection on the File menu to display the Pick Items to Scan screen.



    Items can be added or removed by selecting or deselecting the check boxes. To reset your selection, press the Clear button. To scan your selection for viruses, press the OK button.

    Automatic Scan

    An automatic scan can be organised to occur at specific times from the Settings screen, which is found under the Options menu.

    Scanning screen



    Click the Stop button to abort the Anti-Virus scan. You are prompted with the message box below to confirm that you want to stop the virus scan.




    Click No to continue with the Anti-Virus scan.
    Click on the Pause button to pause the scanner. The Pause button changes to a Resume button.
    Click on the Resume button to continue with the Anti-Virus scan.


    On completion of the the virus scan, the results of the scan are displayed.



    On finding a virus

    If INVISUS Anti-Virus V2 detects a virus, it perform whatever action, that the user has preselected, to the infected file.
    If the prompt option has been selected then the Virus Alert screen is shown.



    This screen enables the user to choose the action for each virus found.
  • Settings

  • INVISUS Anti-Virus V2 provides a number of options for the control and handling of viruses and trojans.



    Scan computer at You can set the number of days between and the time at which the main INVISUS Anti-Virus V2 scanner performs a full Anti-Virus scan of your computer. The maximum number of days is seven.

    Completing a full Anti-Virus scan each day is highly recommended, but no less than once a week is advised.




    Action taken Select the default action to be taken when a virus is found.
    • Quarantine will move the infected file into the quarantine folder. Quarantined files can be reviewed and further actions taken by clicking Virus Quarantine on the File menu.
    • Delete will remove the virus infected file from the system.
    • Ignore will not do anything to a virus or trojan infected file if detected. The file will, of course, not be allowed to execute.
    • Show alert window will display a prompt screen each time a virus found, so that the choice can be made on an individual file basis




    Scan Level Select the scan level when scanning files.
    • Quick Scan checks the parts of each file that are most likely to contain viruses. This level is sufficient for normal operation.
    • Full Scan examines the complete contents of each file. This level is more secure and rigorous but is slower than a quick scan. A full scan is needed in order to detect some viruses, but it is recommended that full scanning only be enabled on a case-by-case basis.
    Active Scan Select if real time scanning is to be enabled. When real time scanning is active, files are scanned before they are run or accessed. The provides an extra level of protection, as a virus can infect your machine between scans. Active scan will stop this virus from running. It is highly recommended that this option should be kept on.




    Email Scanning Select whether emails should be scanned for viruses.

  • Email Scanning

  • INVISUS Anti-Virus V2 is capable of scanning incoming emails for viruses. Certain email clients can be detected by INVISUS Anti-Virus V2, and the email accounts automatically protected.

    These clients are: The Email Settings screen below can be access through the Options menu, then Settings option. Select Email tab, and then click the Email Settings Button.



    Filter Selects email accounts to be scanned
    Email Address The name of the email address being scanned
    Via Port The new port number being used to send scanned emails.
    Original The original port number for the email account.
    Configuration How the email account was added.
    • Automatic - Automatically added by INVISUS Anti-Virus V2.
    • User Set - Manually set by the user.
    Mail Client The name of the mail client the acccount is in.
    Incoming The name of the incoming mail server.


    To add email accounts that have not been detected automatically, and for advice on configuring clients that are not supported, use the Configuring Email Clients section.

  • Quarantine



  • Virus infected files or trojans that have been moved into the quarantine folder can be reviewed and further actions taken on them. The screen shows a list of quarantined files with their original location and the virus infection detected.
    To perform an action on a quarantined file, select the file to all the options.

    Restore Restore will move the virus infected file back to its original location.
    IMPORTANT
    Restoring virus infected files back onto your computer is potentially harmful to your computer and is not recommended.
    Disinfect Disinfect will attempt to remove or disinfect the part of the file that has been infected. If the file is successfully disinfected, a message will be displayed confirming this. The disinfected file's entry in the quarantine list will have its virus name prefixed with the words "Successfully disinfected". You can now Restore the file to its original location, if appropriate. If the file cannot be disinfected, a warning message will be displayed.
    Delete Delete the virus infected file.
